Michael celebrates Diwali with the Gujarat Association of Barnsley

Diwali_compilation.jpgToday's Barnsley Chronicle reports that on Saturday 7 November, at the invitation of the Gujarat Association of Barnsley, Michael celebrated the festival of Diwali at the Rockingham Centre in Hoyland Common. Welcomed to the event by the chair of the Gujarat Association of Barnsley, Mr Harshad Patel, Michael took part in the traditional coconut welcome ceremony and enjoyed performances by a selection of Bollywood dancers and the Silkstone Greens Morris Dancers.

Michael was joined at the event by the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Brian Mathers, Deputy Leader of Barnsley Council, Councillor Jim Andrews and Barnsley Councillors Roya Pourali, Sharon Howard, Tim Shepherd, Joe Heyward and John Clarke. Catering for the celebration was provided by Chilli Restaurant.


Commenting Michael said:

"This evening is certainly one I look forward to, it's a highlight of the year. I congratulate Mr Patel on organisaing yet another brilliant Diwali Celebration. Its clear that events like this highlight the cultural diversity in Barnsley and its great that the whole community comes together to celebrate this diversity."
