As reported in the Barnsley News and Sport, the Barnsley Gazette and the Barnsley Chronicle, this week Michael encouraged local pupils to design a stamp for the Royal Mail’s 2017 Christmas stamp design competition.
Centred on the theme ‘what does the Christmas season mean to you?’, the Royal Mail is giving pupils the chance to submit a design to be approved by the Queen and used on millions of Christmas cards.
There are 120 prizes to be won, with the winners seeing their designs used on stamps and receiving £1000 for themselves and for their schools. Area winners, runners-up and their schools will also receive prizes of £500 and £100.
Commenting, Michael said:
"The deadline for entries is 17th March and I have written to schools in Barnsley East to make sure everyone knows about this fantastic event."
"I would encourage everyone to get involved and have a go."
