Michael Calls for Review into Miners' Pension Scheme

As reported in The Yorkshire Post, Barnsley News and SportThe Doncaster Free Press, The South Yorkshire Times and the Scan0016.jpgBarnsley Chronicle, on Tuesday 31st January Michael renewed his call to review the arrangements for the Mineworker’s Pension Scheme (MPS).

Michael has jointly written to the Trustees of the MPS in order to meet and discuss the arrangements. Previously, he had signed Early Day Motion 671 that calls for a review, the full wording of which can be found here: https://www.parliament.uk/edm/2016-17/671

50 per cent of the surplus made by the MPS is received by the Government, who since 1994 have made £3.36bn from the scheme despite contributing nothing to it.

Commenting, Michael said:

"This is not good enough, and the former miners and their families deserve a far better deal."
