As reported in the Barnsley Chronicle and The Star; On Tuesday 7th February Michael is co-sponsoring Holly Lynch’s fantastic Bill that would ensure tougher penalties for criminals who
assault police officers and other members of the emergency services.
The Bill will be discussed in the House of Commons, and Michael is pleased to add his backing.
In Barnsley alone, there were 31 assaults on police in the first nine months of 2016, more than the entire number of 27 across 2015.
Across the country, there were an estimated 23,000 assaults on police officers in 2015.
Along with Holly Lynch’s Bill, Michael is supporting the Police Federation’s ‘Protect the Protector’s’ campaign. This campaign was
launched on 6th February, and similarly calls for better protection for police officers. You can read more about the campaign here: https://www.politicshome.com/news/uk/home-affairs/policing/press-release/police-federation-england-and-wales/83073/national
Commenting, Michael said:
“Our police and emergency services do an incredible job in difficult circumstances, and this Bill will give them the necessary support and security they need to continue keeping people safe in Barnsley and across the country.”
