On Saturday 5 December, Michael joined Darren Henley CEO and Michelle Dickson, Strategic Touring Director and Regional Director (North) from the Arts Council for England at the launch of Barnsley Council’s new Public Art Strategy
The strategy was commissioned by the council’s arts, museums and archive service and produced by BEAM, a public art charity and provides guidance on all aspects of commissioning, planning, installation and maintenance of public art and public realm sculpture in Barnsley.
Following the launch, Michael accompanied Darren and Michelle on a tour of Experience Barnsley and Discovery Centre, the award winning museum based in the Town Hall dedicated to the history and people of Barnsley.
The launch coincided with the annual Barnsley Town Hall Open Day, an event that enables the public to learn more about Future Council, the town centre regeneration and the commercial services the council offers.
Here Michael met representatives from a range of local organisations including Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership, Barnsley Cycle Hub, Creative Recovery, Love Where You Live, Walk Well, Safer Road’s Partnership, Barnsley Council’s Sport and Active Recreation team and personal trainer Sam Scarfe.
Michael also presented certificates at the annual Barnsley Equality Forum Awards that took place during the afternoon.
